Overview of Changes in the ČD Tariff Valid from 11 December 2011

The across-the-board increase in VAT will also be reflected in the prices of train tickets starting on 11 December...

The carrier is forced reflect last year’s 1% increase in value added tax and this year’s 4% increase. Overall, ticket prices will increase by 5% on average. Funds collected as VAT is not income for ČD; the carrier hands them over in the full amount to the state.

ČD did not reflect the first increase in VAT (by 1%) in the prices charged to its customers, and since 2010 it has handed over the increased tax to the state at its own expense. In view of growth in the prices of inputs and of fundamental cost-cutting measures, however, ČD is no longer able to shield its customers from the increased tax. Thus, starting on 11 December, a price increase of 5% on average will be reflected in the regular fare, based on which – as has normally been the case heretofore – the prices of other products are calculated. For international travel documents, there will be an increase in price as a result of a decline in the exchange rate of the Czech crown vis-à-vis the euro (this rate has decreased by 6% since August), as the prices of international travel documents are set in euros. Until 10 December, ČD will sell tickets according to current fare schedules, including 60-day advance sales. Thus, customers can purchase tickets at the old fares for travel as late as early February.

Regular fare

The price of the regular fare will be adjusted so that the price of tickets for distances of 1 to 20 km will increase by CZK 1. For distances over 20 km, the coefficient from which the additional fare is calculated will rise from CZK 1.20 / km to CZK 1.26 / km. There will be no changes to the method of calculation (formulae, coefficients) for other offers based on the regular fare (e.g. customer fares, commuter fares), except for the group discount.
