What is local border traffic?
Local border traffic with Slovakia allows for travel between railway stations located up to 40 km (in selected cases up to 50 km) from the Czech-Slovak international border – from a so-called border-crossing point. Areas of validity relating to individual border-crossing points are marked on maps:
Border-crossing points:
- Kúty Gr. (on the line from Břeclav) - Mapa pro přechod Kúty (33 kB)
(Map for the Kúty border crossing) - Vrbovce Gr. (on the line from Veselí nad Moravou) - Mapa pro přechod Vrbovce (31 kB)

Tickets for local border traffic
- one-way or return
- valid for 2nd class travel on local (Os), limited-stop (Sp) and fast (R) trains operated by ČD and Slovak rail operator ZSSK
- one-way tickets are valid until 6:00 a.m. on the day following the first day of validity
- return tickets are valid until 24:00 on the day following the first day of validity
- tickets can be purchased in advance sales up to 2 months prior to travel
You can start your journey at any time during the ticket’s term of validity. It is not permitted to interrupt your journey. Tickets cannot be issued to/from a border-crossing point.
Where to purchase tickets
Tickets are sold at ticket counters in railway stations in the vicinity of the given border-crossing point and can originate from the station in which they are purchased. You can thus purchase a ticket from Břeclav to Kúty only in Břeclav, not e.g. in Vsetín. If there is no ticket counter open at the station, it is possible to purchase tickets from the conductor on the train.
Transporting bicycles
In the direction to Slovakia, transport of a bicycle costs CZK 25; in the direction from Slovakia to the Czech Republic, the price is EUR 1. Bicycles are transported as oversized luggage.
Transporting prams
Prams containing a child are transported free of charge.

Can I travel on a EuroCity train?
No. Tickets for local border traffic are only valid for local (Os), limited-stop (Sp) and fast (R) trains.
The price of a ticket is composed of the sum of the prices for the Czech segment and Slovak segment. The price for a return ticket is exactly double the price for a one-way ticket. The conversion into Czech crowns is performed according to their current Uniformed Railway Exchange rate.
