Swiss Travel System

Swiss Travel System tickets are network travel documents that entitle the holder to travel in Switzerland during a specified term on most trains, buses and boats. Certain types of tickets also allow holders to travel on municipal mass transport. Discounts are provided on cableways and rack railways. Tickets can be purchased at selected ČD ticket counters that sell international tickets.
Transport terms and conditions
- Swiss Travel System tickets can be purchased only by citizens with permanent residence outside Switzerland and Liechtenstein
- tickets are non-transferable and are issued in the passenger’s name upon presentation of a piece of identification; the passenger’s given name, surname and identification document number are specified on the ticket
- prior to commencing a journey, the passenger must fill in the date of the journey (for “Flexi” tickets) and provide his or her signature in the appropriate cells
- tickets can be purchased for 1st or 2nd carriage class
Types of tickets and their validity
Tickets are always valid from 0:00 (midnight) on the first day of validity until 05:00 (5 a.m.) on the day following the last day of validity.
Swiss Pass (SP)
- valid for 4, 8, 15, 22 days or 1 month
- basic offer for all passengers
Swiss Saver Pass (SSP)
- valid for 4, 8, 15, 22 days or 1 month
- intended for groups of passengers (at least two adult passengers)
- a discount is provided of 15% off the basic price
- tickets must be issued at the same time for all passengers and for the same carriage class, same type and category; each passenger will receive a separate travel document
Swiss Youth Pass (SYP)
- valid for 4, 8, 15, 22 days or 1 month
- intended for passengers up to 26 years of age
- a discount is provided of 25% off the basic price
Swiss Flexi Pass (SFP)
- within 1 month, passengers select the number of valid days: 3, 4, 5 or 6 days
- prior to commencing a journey, it is necessary to fill in the date in the appropriate cell on the ticket
- outside of the selected days but between the first and last selected days of validity, passengers can purchase travel documents in Switzerland with a 50% discount
Swiss Saver Flexi Pass (SSFP)
- within 1 month, passengers select the number of valid days: 3, 4, 5 or 6 days
- prior to commencing a journey, it is necessary to fill in the date in the appropriate cell on the ticket
- outside of the selected days but between the first and last selected days of validity, passengers can purchase travel documents in Switzerland with a 50% discount
- intended for groups of passengers (at least two passengers)
- a discount is provided of 15% off the basic price
- tickets must be issued at the same time for all passengers and for the same carriage class, same type and category; each passenger will receive a separate travel document
Swiss Transfer Ticket (STT)
- the ticket is valid from the Swiss border or from a Swiss airport to the destination and return (Zürich HB, Geneve, Bern, Lausanne and Lugano are also considered borders and airports)
- one outbound and one return journey must be completed within one month
- prior to commencing a journey, it is necessary to fill in the date in the appropriate cell on the ticket
- the ticket is valid for the shortest transport route
- the Swiss Transfer Ticket is not valid on municipal mass transport or for free admission to museums
Swiss Card (SC)
- the ticket is valid from the Swiss border or from a Swiss airport to the destination and return (Zürich HB, Geneve, Bern, Lausanne and Lugano are also considered borders and airports)

- prior to commencing a journey, it is necessary to fill in the date in the appropriate cell on the ticket

Swiss Half Fare Card
- during its one-month term of validity, the card entitles the passenger to purchase an unlimited number of travel documents with a 50% discount for 1st or 2nd carriage class; the passenger will purchase such tickets in Switzerland
- the card is non-transferable and is issued to adults only
Supplements and reservations
For certain connections (train, bus, boat), it is necessary to purchase a reservation with a supplement prior to travel (e.g. Glacier Express, Bernina Express, Wilhelm Tell Express, Swiss Chocolate Train, Palm Express, certain Postbus connections, etc.). You must purchase reservations in Switzerland, where you will also receive further information.
Travelling with children
- children under 6 years of age are transported free of charge
- unaccompanied children under 16 years of age pay 50% of the fare (Swiss Pass, Swiss Flexi Pass and Swiss Transfer Pass)
- accompanied children under 16 years of age are transported free of charge provided that a parent has purchased one of the Swiss Travel System tickets and also presents a Family Card (see below)
Family Card
- the Family Card is issued free of charge and can be used repeatedly if the specified information is valid and up to date
- a Family Card bears the given names and surnames of the parents, the residence address, the children’s names and their dates of birth
- a Family Card must bear one signature of a parent
Map of validity
When purchasing certain Swiss Travel System tickets, you will receive a map of validity and possibly also an envelope for keeping the ticket and map.

Refunds
Tickets can only be returned prior to the commencement of their term of validity. The service charge is always 15% of the ticket price. “Flexi” tickets can only be returned completely unused and without filled-in dates (not even one date can be filled in).
Bonuses and other information
Tickets (except for Swiss Card and Swiss Transfer Pass) can be used for free admission to a range of museums and for discounts on other products. You will find detailed information on Swiss Travel System discounts and offers on www.swisstravelsystem.ch.
