Discount for School Groups Travelling to Germany

Who is the offer intended for?

• for organised school groups (primary, secondary, and post-secondary schools headquartered in the Czech Republic) and accompanying adults travelling abroad
• school groups can be composed of students up to 26 years of age, while an additional 2 accompanying passengers may be 26 years of age or older

What is necessary

• print our the JOURNEY PLAN form (downloadable below), fill it in and stamp it with the school’s stamp
• hand over the completed form at a ČD ticket counter which issues international tickets, where you will be sold a ticket for the specified number of passengers (you will obtain one group ticket and an inspection ticket for each member of the group)
• pay the appropriate sum at the ticket counter, the amount of which is determined according to the international tariff (SCIC-NRT)

Terms and Conditions

• return ticket valid for 2nd class travel
• ticket valid one month (it is possible to begin the outbound and return journeys at any time during the one-month term of validity)
• for the ČD segment a discount of 50% is provided off ČD’s international fare
• the foreign railway will provide a discount of up to 60% off the international fare
• the minimum number in the group is 10 passengers; the maximum number per ticket is 30 passengers
• in one group a maximum of 2 passengers 26 years of age or older may travel; the other passengers must be under 26
• under international rules, the group leader is responsible for the entire group
• reservations in trains requiring them, couchette and sleeper supplements are paid in the full amount
• when using trains not requiring reservations we recommend purchasing reservations for the entire group

In the event of a change in the number of passengers, it is necessary note this change on the back of the document at a ticket counter no later than at time of the train’s departure. If the number of passengers declines below 10, it is not possible to receive a refund or partial refund. Transfer to 1st class travel is not possible.

Demonstrating eligibility

Eligibility is demonstrated at the ČD ticket counter when purchasing the travel document by handing over the completed form verified by the school. It is not necessary to demonstrate the age of the passengers in the group, even on the train.

• Berlin – a European metropolis of culture and entertainment. Here you will find interesting museums, galleries and cultural events not held often in the Czech Republic. You can find a current overview of cultural events in Berlin on http://traveltrade.visitberlin.de. As part of the “Children on an Excursion” project, we recommend visiting the DDR Museum, an interactive museum where you can become acquainted with the life and history of the GDR, get to know the style of the period and even view interesting documents. Reserve a tour in advance on post@ddr-museum.de (also available in English). The price of the excursion is EUR 3.50 per person. You will find more information on www.ddr-museum.de. You will also experience a journey into the past at the German Museum of Technology, which has something to offer for all ages. For school groups, admission is EUR 1.50 per person. • Dresden – a city famous for its art collections. All the museums of the Dresden State Art Collections (e.g. the famous Old Masters Picture Gallery at Zwinger Palace, the Residential Palace and the newly opened Albertinum) offer free admission for children up to 16 years of age. Other students receive a 25 % discount (20 % at the Albertinum). More information is available on www.skd.museum.
• Nuremberg (Nürnberg) – a historic city offering dozens of museums as well as numerous architectural monuments. Alongside its permanent exposition, the Nuremberg Transport Museum has prepared a special exhibition on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the first steam journey in Germany. Groups up to 17 years of age pay admission of EUR 1.50 per person; groups over 17 years of age pay EUR 3.00 per person. More information is available on www.ddr-museum.de.
• Görlitz – the State Art Collections have prepared an exhibition entitled “Via Regia” on the history of one of the most important former trade routes in Europe. Admission for students up to 16 years of age is free of charge; students over 16 enjoy a 22 % discount. More information is available on www.skd.museum.
