Switzerland is an inland country in central Europe. Visitors to Switzerland are attracted by the excellent level of services, culinary specialties, pristine nature and above all the Alps.

Bern – capital city

The historic centre is on the UNESCO list. Among the local attractions are the Bear Pit (Bärengraben) with live bears (the city is named for the bear); the city’s main square is also named Bear Square (Bärenplatz). The city’s main thoroughfare is Marktgasse Street, at the end of which stands the Clock Tower with its astronomical clock and bells. The gothic Münster of Bern is the tallest cathedral in Switzerland.

Emmental Valley

Some 30 km east of Bern. A picturesque valley, green meadows, wooden bridges, the Burgdorf castle.

Jungfraujoch

The highest railway station in Europe (3,454 m.a.s.l.). A network of mountain cog railways and cable cars.

Zermatt

A tourist resort below the Matterhorn. Glacial caves, summer skiing. Automobiles are prohibited from entering the town – the train is the ideal choice.
