IDS PID – Prague Integrated Transport
Prague Integrated Transport (PID) is a modern integrated mass transport system established according to a recommendation of the European Union as a communal system.
It is developing gradually on the territory of the capital city of Prague and on the territory of the Central Bohemia Region with vital transport relationships to the capital city. Integrated transport has been established with the goal of ensuring high-quality transport services to the territory in order to make mass transportation competitive with individual transport. The determinative criteria for making the integrated system attractive are time, price, comfort, reliability and safety.
Prague Integrated Transport encompasses the metro, trams, the railway, city and suburban bus lines, the funicular and ferries. These systems are being gradually integrated through common transport and tariff terms and conditions and a unified transport system including coordination of timetables. Rail transport (metro, railway, trams) makes up the backbone of Prague Integrated Transport. Bus transport is organised primarily as connecting transport serving terminals built near rail transport stations.
All railway lines initiating in Prague are integrated into the PID system. Some of the lines are fully integrated, i.e. single-journey transfer tickets can be used. On other routes, only time tickets (passes) can be used. On selected trains (R – in part, Ex, EN, EC, IC, SC) it is not possible to use PID tickets.
The PID tariff is based on zones and time. The territory of the capital city of Prague is conceived, for purposes of the tariff and fares, as 4 tariff zones (P – double zone, 0, B). All metro, tram, city bus and ferry lines, the Petřín funicular and designated segments of railway lines on the territory of the capital city of Prague are included in the “P” tariff double zone. Other lines and segments of railway lines on the territory of the capital city of Prague are included in the other "Prague" tariff zones (0 or B). The surroundings of the capital city of Prague (territory of the Central Bohemia Region) are divided into the 5 external zones (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).
The creation and development of the PID system was entrusted to ROPID (Regional Organiser of Prague Integrated Transport), a professional organisation responsible for the functioning of Prague Integrated Transport. Its role is primarily to provide coordination, organisation and oversight. The state and local administrative bodies which entrusted it to secure transport services are responsible for its work.
