Denmark is a flat Scandinavian country located on the Jutland Peninsula and more than four hundred surrounding islands. While the mainland border with Germany is just under seventy kilometers, the total length of the coastline is about seven thousand kilometers. The highest point of the country is 171 meters above sea level, which is only 56 meters higher than the lowest point of the Czech Republic.

Copenhagen

The roughly half-million capital city, situated on the island of Zealand, offers tourists an interesting mix of history and modern times. Here you can visit the idyllic Nyhavn waterfront, the Amalienborg royal palace, or have your photo taken with the famous Little Mermaid statue near the local fortress. You can easily return to the present, for example, by visiting the futuristically designed Copenhagen Opera House.

Kronborg Castle

North of Copenhagen in the town of Helsingør lies Kronborg Castle, where the action of Shakespeare's drama Hamlet is set. You can easily get to this monument, referred to as Elsinor in the mentioned work, from Copenhagen by suburban train. Those not seeking the answer to the question "to be, or not to be" can visit at least the Danish Technical Museum in the town instead of Hamlet's haunt.

Legoland

If you head to Denmark with children, you can also stop by the famous Legoland, located in the town of Billund approximately in the middle of the Jutland Peninsula. The park is situated near the original Lego factory and was opened in 1968. In its area, you will find not only a miniature world made of bricks but also a roller coaster and other attractions.
