Premium and bonus services

There are many supplementary and premium services on ČD trains, and they are continually expanding. Give them a try!

Standard offer

ČD trains normally offer passenger seating in open areas or small compartments (usually for 6 or 8 passengers). You can choose to travel in comfortable 1st class or the standard 2nd class. 1st class offers greater passenger comfort, mainly in the form of more spacious and comfortable seats, more leg room and in some cases additional amenities (e.g. individual lighting, electrical sockets), and above-standard services (e.g. refreshments). There is a WC on each train with a separate washroom in some carriages.

Disabled passengers

Some trains are equipped for transporting passengers using wheelchairs and special seating and accessible WCs are reserved for their use. Selected carriages are equipped with a platform lift for passengers using wheelchairs to facilitate their boarding. In addition to disabled passengers, accessible trains (especially suburban trains) will also be appreciated by mothers with prams and by elderly passengers.

Hand luggage

ČD trains also allow for carry-on luggage, which can be placed on shelves above the seats, under the seat or on special shelves located near the carriage’s boarding areas.

Premium service in 1st class

In 1st class on SC Pendolino trains and in Business sections on railjet trains, you will receive – in addition to premium services – also bonus services free of charge. Bonus services consist of a welcome drink in the form of Bohemia Sekt sparkling wine (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and a simple snack, e.g. sandwich, yogurt, couscous with roasted chicken, or other selection from our current offering. Passengers can also select a hot beverage (coffee or tea).

On all category EC, IC and Ex trains, we provide premium services in 1st class in selected segments, which include still water free of charge.

Luggage

On selected trains you can also travel with larger-size luggage (e.g. bicycles). Special areas aboard the train are designated for such luggage. The passenger is always responsible for loading such luggage and transferring it to another train himself/herself.

Refreshments

On selected trains there is a dining carriage or bistro offering a selection of warm or cold dishes and beverages. In dining carriages there are separate seats for food consumption, as in a restaurant. You can make your train journey more pleasant by having lunch in the dining carriage. By contrast, the bistro is equipped only with bar counters. On some trains refreshments are served in all carriages from a mobile minibar, so you can purchase cold snacks and cold and warm beverages without leaving the comfort of your seat.

Passengers travelling with children

On long-distance trains, priority seating is usually reserved for passengers travelling with children under 10 years of age. Carriages with such seating are clearly marked.

Ladies’ compartments

Ladies’ compartments are among a range of special compartments which ČD offers on almost all of its category EC and Ex trains. Like quiet compartments, these compartments were introduced in response to suggestions from our passengers. Ladies’ compartments are always situated in 2nd class carriages in the vicinity of the service compartment, and are inspected more frequently by train personnel during the course of the journey. They are intended for women and girls only, especially those travelling alone. The possibility of purchasing a reservation for this special compartment is in preparation.

Quiet compartments

On selected trains, you will find so-called quiet sections. Passengers in a quiet section should turn off the ringers on their mobile telephones when boarding the train. If they need to make or take a telephone call during the train’s journey, they should do so outside the quiet section, i.e. in the carriage’s boarding area or in an adjacent carriage. In consideration of other passengers, they should also refrain from any noisy or disruptive activity in the quiet section.

Basic rules for quiet sections:

prior to boarding the train, turn off the ringer on your mobile telephone
do not make telephone calls in the quiet section
do not disturb other passengers by listening to loud music (even with headphones)
use laptops, tablets, game consoles, etc. only with the sound switched off
avoid loud conversation and other disruptive activity during the journey as well as during boarding and disembarking

Additional equipment

In certain new carriages, especially 1st class carriages, you can use electrical sockets to charge small electronic devices such as laptops and mobile phones. Thanks to the electrical sockets, you can work or watch a film on your portable computer even on longer trips without any difficulty.

Overnight trains

Sleeper and couchette carriages are available for comfortable overnight travel. While travelling overnight, you can enjoy undisturbed sleep and wake up in the morning at your destination rested and fresh.

Automobiles on the Train

On selected long-distance trains, you can even load your passenger car or motorcycle onto special carriages. Thus, when travelling to more distant destinations you can even “pack” your car or motorcycle for your trip. You will then spend your time on board the train in a comfortable sleeper carriage (night trains) or in a regular carriage with seating. After reaching your destination, you will be rested and can continue your journey by car.

Service carriage

A service carriage is a carriage which provides multiple special services at once – for example, the luggage storage during transport service (transport of luggage), ladies’ compartment and compartment for passengers travelling with children under 10 years of age.

WiFi

On selected trains, you can use a wireless internet service free of charge. These trains are listed in the timetable and in search results with a WiFi pictogram or a note indicating that “the inclusion in the train of a carriage with a wireless internet connection is planned”. The systems in the carriages use mobile data services and thus the internet connection is constrained by the availability of a mobile signal during the journey.
