You can travel to Budapest several times per day without changing trains not only from Prague but also from Pardubice and Brno. EuroCity trains run between Prague, Brno and Budapest every two hours. Once a day, you can travel to Budapest without changing also from Ostrava.

Budapest

Hungary’s capital city with 1.7 million residents. This cosmopolitan metropolis on the Danube where East meets West and North meets South arose through a merger of the two original cities Buda and Pest. We recommend visiting the Várhegy castle district, the neo-gothic parliament building and Margaret Island (Margit-sziget) on the Danube – an oasis of green and tranquillity. You can sample Hungarian Csabai sausage and wine on the Váci utca boulevard, one of the city’s major streets. You can end your visit by enjoying the atmosphere of a thermal spa, e.g. Gellért or Széchényi. In Budapest there are more than 100 thermal springs.

Esztergom

This former centre of the Kingdom of Hungary lies in northern Hungary and is separated from neighbouring Slovakia by the Danube, spanned by the Marie Valerie Bridge. Above the city rises the classicist Esztergom Basilica, the country’s largest Christian cathedral. You can get to Esztergom by train from Budapest or by foot over the Marie Valerie Bridge from Štúrovo in Slovakia.

Tokaj

The winemaking heart of Hungary lies two and half hours’ journey by train from Budapest. This small town at the convergence of the Tisza and Bodrog Rivers is the centre of the Tokaj wine region and was added to the UNESCO list in 2002. Vineyards have been cultivated here since the 11th century.
