Reduced fares for passengers with disabilities

Passengers with disabilities are entitled to substantial rail fare reductions. Concessions also apply to international travel for visually impaired passengers, wheelchair users, and their companions.

Discounted fare for ZTP or ZTP/P card holders

Passengers who are holders of a ZTP or ZTP/P card are entitled to a discounted fare for persons with severe disabilities. For this discounted fare, they can travel in 2nd class on all trains. The discounted fare is financially very advantageous and entitlement to it is proven by a ZTP or ZTP/P card.

In addition to the entitlement to discounted fare, a ZTP/P card holder is entitled to:

  • free transport of their guide in 2nd class, even if the ZTP/P card holder uses a different fare
  • free transport of one orthopedic wheelchair

How does the guide of a ZTP/P card holder travel?

The guide of a ZTP/P card holder is entitled to free transport in 2nd class. Another ZTP/P card holder cannot act as a guide. The guide of a ZTP/P card holder, including a passenger in an orthopedic wheelchair, must be a person physically and mentally mature and capable enough to provide the passenger with all assistance. A guide dog can be a guide for a blind person. Guide dogs for blind ZTP/P card holders and assistance dogs are transported free of charge.

Travel in 1st class

When using 1st class, the ZTP or ZTP/P card holder pays the full 1st class fare or other 1st class fare for which they prove entitlement. If they are also a holder of an In Karta with the IN 50 1T customer application, they receive a 50% discount on the full fare in 1st class.

The guide of a ZTP/P card holder pays the fare for which they prove entitlement when using 1st carriage class.

A guide dog for the blind and an assistance dog are transported free of charge even in 1st class.

Seat reservations

The price for a seat reservation for a guide is the same as for a ZTP/P card holder. In compulsorily reserved trains (for example SuperCity trains), a seat reservation must always be purchased for the guide of a ZTP/P card holder as well.

A guide dog for the blind does not pay the price for a seat reservation even in a compulsorily reserved train or compartment.
