Fast trains (R) and express (Ex) trains stop only at the most important stations or stops, and provide fast connections between regions in the Czech Republic, as well as to foreign destinations. They offer travel in 1st and 2nd carriage class as well as optional seat reservations. The trains are able to transport bicycles, prams and strollers, as well as other bulky luggage. On selected express (Ex) trains, you can purchase refreshments using the in-seat service. Fast trains (R) and some express (Ex) trains are commissioned and co-financed by the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic. Other express (Ex) trains have not been commissioned and are co-financed at ČD’s own commercial risk.

Vehicle types

Class 854 railcars

You can make use of fast (R) trains composed of a railcar and one or more passenger carriages on line R22 operating on the Kolín – Česká Lípa – Rumburk route. Similar train units, although without 1st carriage class, are operated on line R26 on the Prague – Příbram – České Budějovice route and on line R21 on the Prague – Turnov – Tanvald route.
