free travel for children under 6 years of age in 2nd and 1st class
50% discount for children and juniors 6 to 17 years of age in 2nd class only

For children under 6 years of age, it is necessary to have a complimentary ticket issued from the boarding station to the destination station. You can obtain this ticket without any formalities even from the conductor.

Juniors 15 to 17 years of age demonstrate eligibility for the special fare with a personal identity card, student ID card, ISIC card or other official card or carrier issued card containing the current photo and the first and last name and date of birth of the passenger. The entitlement may also be proved by the expired card.

This ticket cannot be used for intra-regional journeys by Regional trains (Os) and Regional fast trains (Sp) in the territory of the South Moravian Region and the Zlín Region.

Terms and conditions of the Special Fare for Children and Juniors

Children under 6 years of age

children under 6 years of age travel free of charge in 2nd or 1st class only when accompanied by a person 10 years of age or older who has his/her own valid ticket
for children under 6 years of age, it’s necessary to have a complimentary ticket issued from the boarding station to the destination station, which you can always obtain without any formalities even from the conductor
a passenger 10 years of age or older with a valid ticket may transport with him/her free of charge at most 2 children under 6 years of age, provided only one seat is required for both of them
second child under 6 years of age on separete seat, each additional child under 6 years of age or each unaccompanied child under 6 years of age will pay in 1st or 2nd class a 50% discount off the Flexi Ticket, Flexi Reduced Ticket or Ticket with an Obligatory Train.

Children and Juniors 6 to 17 years of age

children and juniors 6 to 17 years of age pay in 2nd class the special fare for children and thus receive a 50% discount off the Flexi Ticket, Flexi Reduced Ticket or Ticket with an Obligatory Train (the child’s age on the first day of the ticket’s term of validity is determinative for granting the discount)

Price Schedule for the Special Fare for Children and Juniors

The price of the Special Fare for Children depends on the tariff distance. Tariff distance is determined for the actual transport route between railway stations according to the kilometres specified in the timetable of the railway operator or the timetable of a contractual bus carrier, and ranges from at least 1 km to at most 600 km.

FAQs

Does a child under 6 years of age have to have his or her own ticket?

Yes. Every child under 6 years of age must have his or her own free ticket from the boarding station to the destination station. The ticket can be procured in the ticket office or without formalities directly from the conductor on the train. Following a forthcoming announcement, it will also be possible to obtain a free ticket for a child in the ČD e-shop or when purchasing a ticket using a mobile telephone. Until then, it will be possible even in these cases to obtain a free ticket for a child directly from the conductor on the train, always without a handling surcharge or fare surcharge.

Are children entitled to cheaper seat reservations, sleeper berths or couchette berths?

No. For children under 6 years of age, the price of a reservation (seat, sleeper or couchette) is that of a reservation for an accompanying adult passenger.

Can a child with an In Karta card receive a bigger discount?

No. In Karta card will not bring a child or junior a cheaper ticket price than a 75% discount on an ordinary fare, even without In Karta card.
