Conditions of Discounted fare for children and juniors

Children under 6

• children under 6 travel free of charge in 2nd class only when accompanied by a person over 10 years of age who has a valid ticket for themselves
• for children under 6, it is necessary to have a free ticket from the departure to the destination station, which you can always get without formalities from the conductor
• a passenger over 10 years of age with a valid ticket can carry an unlimited number of children under 6 free of charge

Children and juniors from 6 to 18 years

• children and juniors from 6 to 18 years of age pay a Discounted Fare for children in 2nd class, so they have a 50% discount on a Flexi ticket, Flexi discounted ticket or Fixed ticket (the child's age on the first day of ticket validity determines eligibility for the discount)
• juniors from 15 to 18 years of age prove their entitlement to a Discounted Fare with an identity card, student ID, ISIC card or other carrier-issued card containing a current photograph, first and last name and date of birth of the passenger. Entitlement can also be proven with an expired card.

The price of the Discounted fare for children depends on the tariff distance. The tariff distance is determined for the actual transport route between railway stations according to the kilometers stated in the timetable of the railway operator and is at least 1 kilometer and a maximum of 600 kilometers.

Guide to safe and easy travel for children

Are you planning to commute to school regularly or perhaps visit your grandmother on your own?

Traveling by train is comfortable, safe and fun even for you, the youngest passengers. Just follow a few basic rules and you can enjoy traveling with Czech Railways in peace!

Children from the age of six can travel on our trains unaccompanied. Even first-graders can go to school on their own. Younger passengers must be accompanied by a sibling or friend who is at least ten years old. The accompanying person is responsible for the young passenger, so be careful not to let your brother or sister run around the train on their own!

Journey to the platform

You can find your platform on the departure board, where you can also find out if your train is delayed. But even so, keep your ears open and listen to the announcements in case something changes. In the underpass, in the hall, in the e-shop or in the My Train application, take a look at the train formation plan. This will tell you how to find your carriage, if you have a seat reservation, where first class is or even the dining car. I'm sure you can't wait to get on the train, but don't rush. Go to your platform via the underpass or overpass, if there is one at the station, and don't run across the tracks. On the platform, wait behind the yellow line until the train has come to a complete stop.

Boarding the train

Do you have a ticket for a ČD train? Be careful not to accidentally board a train operated by another carrier, your ticket is not valid there! When your train arrives at the platform, do not board it until it has come to a complete stop. Then there is usually a flurry of people on the platform and as soon as the conductor blows his whistle, getting on and off is prohibited! If the doors to your carriage happen to be out of order, feel free to board through the next door - the carriages are walk-through and you can get to wherever you need to, even while the train is moving.

Behavior while traveling

The conductor whistles, the engine hoots and we're off! They say that the most beautiful view of the world is from a train - but don't lean out of the window while admiring it, in case you get slapped by a branch near the track. The accompanying person is responsible for children under six, so if your brother or sister needs to go to the toilet, for example, don't let them go alone. Walk carefully around the train, it can jolt and sway a bit.

What if something goes wrong on the train?

Do you come across an open door, someone is unwell or someone is bothering you or other passengers? Get to safety and let the conductor know, he will take care of it.

Feeling peckish, forgotten your snack or want to chat with a friend over a lemonade? No need to despair! On selected connections we offer you something small to eat in our mobile minibars and some trains even have a whole dining car where you can eat to your heart's content.

Get ready, watch out, we're getting off!

Snack eaten, the landscape is passing nicely by the windows, but it's slowly time to get ready to get off. If there is an announcement on the train that your stop is on request, don't forget to press the signal button.
